basically bricked my update manager. And I DID do the terminal install as Mrunibro suggested. There is no excuse to still have this up in this store

You might brick your package manager if you install through software manager! When I installed at first, I got stuck for hours. Checking the logs, the install process hanged at "Pregenerating ConTeXt MarkIV format. This may take some time... " - Searching the internet indicated that you just have to press enter in the terminal a few times because the install process bizarrely listens on /fd/0 for it, without displaying any question. Only, you can't press enter since the software manager is handling the install as a background process! I recommend manually installing this with "sudo apt-get texlive-full" so that you can press enter multiple times if you get stuck on this step. Shoutouts to TimeShift for un-bricking my package manager.
