I came to Linux from Windows not too long ago. I wasn't a novice user on Windows by any means but I still had stuff to figure out after making the switch. And because of the influx of new Linux users (mainly from MS/Windows) to help make Linux more accessible to new to Linux, and especially casual computer users I will be writing my reviews aimed at helping them foremost. All reviews will be 0 honest, including any issues I encountered and if I found them, any quick fixes or workarounds.

org.kde.ark
"Nice clean GUI, and works well."

libreoffice-gnome
"Came pre-installed on my version of Linux Mint and worked right "out of the box". This was a seamless transition as I had already been using LibreOffice apps before coming to Linux and I always recommended it highly even back then. The main apps in the suite I use are Writer and Impress and I like that they give me free cross compatibility to share files with collegues using the MS office suite file formats."

clamav-freshclam
"Does what it says. I run it from the terminal when ClamTK notifies me signatures need updating."

clamav
"Works great. For any new Linux Mint users that don't want to use the terminal much I also recommend installing ClamTK, the graphic user interface tool, Freshclam, and the Clam daemon, if they are not included. I did a separate review on ClamTK too."

clamtk
"The graphic user interface pictured above is out of date. The new GUI has more settings and tools, including a scheduler, and other settings such as to scan directories recursively (scans a lot more), use heuristic scanning, and get automatic updates to the antivirus signatures. (Two minor issues I have ran into are, 1. ClamTK notifies me when signatures are out of date but doesn't update signatures despite having autoupdate turned on, this is fixed by running "sudo freshclam" in the terminal. And 2, It picks up a lot of false positives eg PUA in LibreOffice. Which came as standard with the OS install on a verified ISO, so you sometimes have to look up and double check the result before deciding to quarantine, remove, or ignore the file.)"

steam-installer
"Because I was a totally new Linux user fresh from Windows I will be as exact and clear as possible for anyone who also has the same first experience as me: The Software manager installs this client, the client must be run separately to install Steam. It will not automatically open and install Steam without user say so. (Aside from that 3 seconds of confusion working that out my experience has been that it works smoothly and easily. Just don't forget to go into Steam> settings> compatibility, in the Steam client itself and check/turn on compatibility mode for all games as this wasn't on by default when it first loaded up for me.)"

org.kde.krita
"Krita has all the major tools for professional quality illustration work and is intuitive for those using drawing pen tablets. For users coming from Adobe Photoshop, Clip Studio Paint, or Medibang the user interface and tools are immediately a lot more familiar and accessible than Gimp (Gimp is good, but is more what you want if you are coming from apps like Adobe illustrator instead)."
