libreoffice
"My every-day use office suite for 5 years (15 years if you count OpenOffice!). Still wish it had a better database system, and Impress cannot import old, bad MS Office files correctly yet. However, it opens hundreds of other kinds of files that other programs cannot."

simple-scan
"Easy to scan and save single page or multi page as picture or PDF. Love it! Linux is "plug-and-play" with old Canon LiDE scanner that Windows is too proud to support. One more perfectly good peripheral saved from the scrap pile thanks to Linux."
5
clementine
"I find Clementine awkward to use but considering how bad iTunes has gotten, it compares favorably. Love the internet options. Does not crash all the time like Rhythmbox and Amarok do. Android remote a great add-on. I use Mint 17 and 18."
4
inkscape
"Astonishing how GOOD this program is. I am transitioning to Inkscape from CorelDRAW and Inkscape has most of the features I use in the Corel product. The Extensions menu is super useful, but many of its tools need "live preview" or better controls. Until Corel becomes cross platform, Inkscape will be my tool of choice on Linux."

openshot
"Works for simple projects on Mint 17.3. Don't forget to try latest version from openshot .org site."

pdfshuffler
"Very pleased with this program. Takes a VERY long time to open large PDF files, but program was fast and easy to use."

cheese
"Kids LOVE the effects. Videos can be played in VLC, Chrome, Firefox, Android. Works great on every system I try it on with both built-in and separate webcams."

supertuxkart
"Fun kart racing game that gets better and better! Newer versions of the game (0.9) don't work on my older computer, but with newer graphics card they really shine! Old version 0.8 is still fun to play."

hex-a-hop
"Highly recommended, excellent puzzle game."
