inkscape "I love using Inkscape; highly recommended alternative to Illustrator. Flatpak version is more current. Still want to use APT? Add ppa:inkscape.dev/stable under PPAs in Software Sources for current version."

com.vysp3r.ProtonPlus "Works seamlessly with Steam (.deb), and a lot more efficient than flipping through each game, changing its compatibility on Steam's UI. Downloading a new layer (like GE or Cachy) is also far easier (almost idiot-proof) with this."

org.jellyfin.JellyfinDesktop "As much as I love Jellyfin (and I've had a blast making my own server with it), I've had a checkered history with the Linux client app; most times it worked, but sometimes it didn't and was a pain to start up, especially if the server IP changes. IMO, you'll have better luck running it in a web browser (and there's almost no difference between them) or on the official Roku app."

org.bunkus.mkvtoolnix-gui "Flatpak version recommended over APT, especially with its drag & drop features. Had zero problems so far modifying mkv files. If you want to, say... omit the laugh track from your M*A*S*H DVD rips, this app is for you."

org.openrgb.OpenRGB "The app itself is great if you have multiple RGB devices and peripherals and want to control them all from one piece of software. However, the Flatpak version lacks the Hardware Sync plugin (which I needed for monitoring my System Temp at a glance) and it's not listed; though it's available on the website, I can't install it. I opted for the AppImage version instead (which is easiest but, like Flatpak, you need to add udev rules. Of course, they tell you how on their github), then I could add the plugins I needed. Word of warning: Be EXTREMELY CAREFUL not to open two instances of this program at the same time, especially for ASUS Aura; you'll brick your RGB and you'll have a helluva time fixing it."

org.jellyfin.JellyfinServer "Quite possibly, one of the funnest (and paradoxically tedious) projects I've undertaken; it even works with MKV, which is good if you're ripping your DVD library. May move to the recommended install when ready (given the outdated Flatpak version), but for right now everything works fine so I'm satisfied; the Flatpak version is easy to install and a good place to practice and prototype. You may need to manually identify and modify titles with relevant data from time to time as you add them, but notwithstanding, it works and it's fairly easy to use; perfect for your own private "netflix"."

org.inkscape.Inkscape "I love using Inkscape; I use it all the time for vector drawing even before I made the move to Linux. There is a bug at the time of this writing: mesh gradients don't work on strokes; they tend to misalign or load incorrectly. I had to work around it with conventional gradients. Still highly recommended; good alternative to Adobe Illustrator, and Flatpak version has better features than APT."

maelstrom "MY CHILDHOOD! This was one of my first games on Macintosh Performa. Finding it on Linux was, to put it mildly, a pleasant surprise."

steam-installer "I got frustrated trying to get it to run; didn't know you needed the dpkg command listed above. Used the direct download instead."

com.heroicgameslauncher.hgl "Made the move from 11 to LM in 2025. Heroic works flawlessly compared to the GOG Galaxy app, linking games to Steam is a piece of cake, and the built-in Winetricks is a godsend. One or two of my games are borked, but that's a Windows-to-Linux issue, not an interface issue."
