"This is the search tool with a nice GUI I was looking for, it has a useful user manual and is up to date. Was easy to find text in directory/files using query language (boolean). Better than searchmonkey imo."

banshee
"For an unknown reason, all my podcast urls disappeared from VLC, so I tried Banshee for podcatcher, entered all my podcast urls to Banshee, and barely used it and now it won't start - google banshee won't start and it's been happening for ages :o("

"So far so very good :o))"

vlc
"VLC compared to the simple Totem Player, was always intimidating, ever since I switched to Linux a few years ago. Lately, I've been more interested in figuring it out, with adding skins and all the customizations available that used to give me brain overload... I find it very enjoyable now and made it my default media player. I noticed changing skins from the default one, may break some features though..."

amsn
"Fun to customize it - lotsa plugins and some skins - but you don't have the choice to uninstall the MSN E-mail notifier that comes with it. I already have an E-mail notifier applet in my Linux panel, that notifies me of every incoming mail, not just from Hotmail account. I thought I could connect two MSN accounts at the same time, but as far as I know, that's not possible. Back to Pidgin for me."

cairo-dock
"It has folder dockets that behave like the android home screen folder."

alarm-clock-applet
"Simple and useful. Option to set it to run on startup. Even when time was missed, due to computer shut down, alarm will ring once PC is turned on. Systray icon. Had it on Mint 14, reinstalled for Mint 15. Wish it had a calendar (monthly) reminder, instead of just weekly."

"If you need an app to open/extract a corrupted PDF file, this is not for you, try qpdf or pdfsam instead. qpdf extracts a smaller/compressed PDF file while pdfsam has a GUI and also merges/splits PDFs."
3
pdfsam
"Best PDF app I've used for Linux Mint 14 (nadia) 64-bit - it merged 5 PDFs, where pdfshuffler failed, and extracted a corrupted PDF file that can now be viewed with the default doc viewer, although qpdf extracted a smaller/compressed file."
5
pdfshuffler
"Cannot save or export pdf file: "Unexpected escaped string" looks like this project has been abandoned. In support this bug was reported years ago."
3
qpdf
"Repairs PDF files that could not be viewed with standard doc viewer but needs a UI or be implemented in the standard doc viewer"
