minitube
"Rather buggy.... doesn't seem to work with Mint 10"
1
nvidia-settings
"doesn't save the setting properly for your next bootup without some twewaking, but then again, we can't complain because there aren't any other GUIs to do this."
2
transmission
"You don't really need anything more complicated than this IMO"
5
sun-java6-plugin
"Simply works. Does it's job!"
5
mintmenu
"Probably one of the BEST innovations in the 'menu' ever."

skype
"kinda useful for calls because of the great rates, and it has great sound quality comparead to other VOIP services. Terrible webcam support though, and it lacks the majority of features of it's windows and mac counterparts, like plug-ins and add-ons. For calls, you're better off using the landline-dialable Skype number (which you can setup on their site) and for IM, there are less clunky protocols out there. Skype is notorious for dropping IM (not just in the Linux version)"

virtualbox-3.1
"Nice, simple, does the job without much tweaking. Not as resource efficent as using WINE, but then again, you get a lot more stability out of a virtual machine."

openoffice.org-writer
"Works great. I would mostly stick to working in the ODT format and doing as little reconversion as possible, since the porting of MS .doc files isn't exactly perfect, and these imperfections get exacerbated by constant conversion."
5
opera
"It's nice if you're using slower connections (or downloading like there's no tomorrow) but it doesn't always render pages as correctly as Firefox or Chromium. Java applets tend to do strange things in Opera, or not show up at all. The extended features such as Unite though are quite cool-- I'd say it's useful for sharing and the extended features, which is why I'm giving it as many stars as I do, but as a browser, stick to Chromium or Firefox"
3
startupmanager
"useful for LXDE versions, since they lack the more comprehensive menus found in GNOME"
3
mint-dropbox
"Very convenient. For less than awesome conncetions, it really chokes the connection though-- generally, I take it out of my startup applications and periodically just click-to-load so that it syncs everything at once, since I don't need constant syncing. This way, I can just take everything when I know that some of my peers have loaded fies up."

vlc
"Forget needing to download a hundred different codecs--- this one works right out of the box"
5
cheese
"It does everything that it promises to do in a lightweight but effective package. No frills, but also no bull."
