wicd
"wicd worked like a charm when Network Manager, the default wirless app for Mint 10 KDE kept nagging for "secret for.." password prompts with and without kwallet and other forum suggestions. Also, I thought my video streaming problem was with Flash but no wicd clearned up that god awful buffering situation too. Thanks for making Linux wifi accessible for newbies like me wicd maintaners."

"who need Garage Band?"
fontforge
"manage and remix fonts better then any open source app"
koffice
"a refreshing alternative between MS Office style bloat and Google Docs. Nice to keep Libre Office around to convert to userland formats. I'm looking forward to watching for developments from the Calligra team. My phone runs Maemo and I was looking forward to MeeGo with Calligra and Kontact sync someday but now I'm stuck using Android for mobile and concerned for the future of open source in a mobile world."
kalarm
"best desktop alarm app I've come across. lots of features to run message or audio alerts when you want. Even run commands like a poor man's cron (i think)"
shutter
"amazing! better then Skitch for mac"
audacity
"lots of features for advanced editing. Don't get psyched out because of the GUI. Play around with the toolbar and you'll be fine"
synfigstudio
"best open source 2d animation app"
kde-full
"elagent and integrated"
miro
"Nice app! Now that I'm in Japan with a regular ISP package 100 Mbs d/l & 100 Mbs u/l with no badwidth cap I can use it without 1000%+ markup on Gbs charged to my countrymen in Canada. If you live in a country with draconian ISP bandwidth caps you have to be careful not to increase your bill with downloading vidoes with Miro. That said it's a great project and they even have an easy way for you to setup a video website"
calibre
"great app"
blender
"very cool, expect a learning curve and to not grok it on your first day"
inkscape
"post powerful open source alternative to Adobe Illustrator. Would consider buying or "borrowing" Adobe again"
gimp
"most professional open source alt to PhotoShop. Latest beta is even better then Photoshop for Drupal theming"
freemind
"great personal knowedge managment app. FreeMind file format (.mm) is the standard in mind map apps and useful for sync with Android Think Space, web apps and XMind"
emacs
"a text editor that is just about its own OS. Org-mode is the the geekiest way to customize GTD with plain text. Built in scripts to manage TODOs and time tracking within an outline so the actions are within the context"
vlc
"the best all around media player ect."
