My journey with Linux is as follows:

I was a Windows user for years. Never a fan of Macs whatsoever, but okay with Windows...

Until I met mr. BSOD. He kept coming back and wouldn't go. No viruses, no disk issues... Just Windows.

Then I found Linux Mint. I gave it a try, and I haven't gone back since, nor do I ever plan to.

If you're considering moving to Linux from Windows, I would suggest you might enjoy Mint... I certainly have.

"Great shell-based text editor."
5
passage
"Passage explores the journey of life from a purely naturalistic perspective; that which the character's life on earth is all he is living for. Throughout the game, you have the opportunity to collect treasure chests; but all the while, your character is aging. Slowly but surely, he will reach the end of his life, and no matter how much treasure you have collected, as the author says, "your score looks pretty meaningless hovering there above your little tombstone." What I got from playing this game is that life is pretty meaningless if this life is all there is."
4
galculator
"Good calculator app."
5
virtualbox-4.1
"Brilliant cross-platform virtualisation tool. Brilliant."
5
leafpad
"Quite decent for a lightweight text editor."

"Not bad at all. A few polishes here and there could be used, but overall is a great file manager."
4
gnome-terminal
"Pretty configurable and visually pleasing for a terminal :D"

"If you want Compiz effects, this package is an absolute essential."

compizconfig-settings-manager
"Great for customising Compiz settings."

compiz
"If, like me, you want nice visual effects, Compiz does the job and does it well."
5
xchat
"Does a nice job."
5
x11-utils
"Very useful package."
5
xtron
"Really needs a lot of work done on it. The graphics are outdated to say the least, and gameplay is basic. An improvement on graphics and gameplay would go a long way to improving this program."
2
lxde
"Great DE. Lightweight and highly configurable."
5
xracer
"xracer is a game with a good concept but currently poor execution. Graphics and gameplay are in desperate need of polishing, and it suffers from glitches/bugs often."
2
gconf-editor
"Very much an important and useful config manager."
5
openjdk-6-jdk
"Brilliant Java package. Used it to run Minecraft on a friend's machine with no problems whatsoever."
5
evince
"Great job as a PDF reader."
5
xdesktopwaves
"An interesting little experiment. Compiz does a better job of water simulation for everyday desktop use, but if you like playing around with programs, you might like xdesktopwaves."
4
fracplanet
"The concept is good, but it needs some polishing. The graphics needs improvement as the planet lacks realism and detail; it still looks very polygonal. With some work, this could be a lot better."
3
gcalctool
"Does its job as a calculator, and does it well."
5
alsamixergui
"Very basic program with a really archaic-looking grey interface. Gnome-alsamixer (or the ncurses alsamixer) do a better job with more functionality and graphical improvement."
2
gthumb
"For an image viewer, it's simple, well-designed and fast. Exactly what you would want, you get from gthumb."
5
vectoroids
"This game needs some work done. As an asteroids clone, it's not there yet, or as an asteroids-style game spinoff, it needs some originality (see unique graphics, sound, gameplay)."
3
xaos
"I have no idea what I'm going to use a fractal zoomer for, but it sure is cool. Plenty of options and configurability."
5
titanion
"Insanity near its finest. Titanion has great sound, abstract vector graphics and insane gameplay that makes it a game you come back to play again. The only things really missing is a bit of changing background scenery and boss fights. Still, it's a very addictive game."
5
thrust
"I like how this game crashes and reboots your computer. Nice feature."
1
xoids
"As far as game clones go, Xoids does a great job of copying the original game. If you like old space arcade games, Xoids is for you."
4
xmountains
"Quite a neat little program that takes you past a series of randomly generated mountains. Lots of flag options and neat graphics for sure. If I had a faster computer, this would be my wallpaper. Flags to choose the height of the horizon and perhaps some other effects (smoother scrolling, clouds) would make it even better."
5
projectl
"Great arcade game fun. Challenging but possible. The graphics are nice and smooth; somewhere between retro and vector style. It gets quite addicting."
5
frogatto
"Completely and utterly brilliant. Clever plot, beautiful graphics, a nice retro soundtrack, quirky characters and lots of features make this a platform game not to be missed. This game really deserves more publicity."
5
xonix
"There are better xonix-like clones out there than this one, unfortunately. Graphics and game features are quite poor, making it only suitable to kill a few minutes of your time. Improvements on graphics and sound would make a world of difference."
2
liquidwar
"The game design is very original and quite enjoyable. However, it suffers badly from poor graphics and limited features. If this was improved, it could be much more fun."
3
trigger-rally
"Good fun, and runs smoothly on some older hardware as well. Challenging. The physics engine could use a little improvement though (cars are too light; flip way too easily), and the game would be much more fun with more tracks and cars to choose from."
4
tatan
"The concept of this game is not bad; unfortunately the outcome is less than spectacular. Gameplay is extremely boring and repetitive, lacks quality graphics and needs a more interesting gameplay mechanism implemented. With some work, though, all this could be improved. For the developer, I would suggest looking at a game such as "Upgrade Complete" for inspiration."
1
bsdgames
"Great little text games/software package."
5
bluez-compat
"Absolutely essential for some old bt hardware."
5
wing
"Wing does a great job of reinventing the original galaga arcade game. However, it would have more potential if it was further developed as a standalone game, rather than being a galaga clone. For what it attempts, it does an excellent job, but is still rather simple as an arcade game, and lacks polish. As a galaga clone, great. Otherwise, needs improvement."
4
spout
"This little game is okay to kill some time, but could use improvements in sound, graphics and gameplay. It is a second port of an old game, so this is somewhat understandable. With some work, this game could be much more enjoyable."
3
tint
"A great little Tetris clone. It is indeed pretty similar to the original tetris. Tetris in a terminal window... 5 stars!"
5
geany
"Nice, clean and does the job well. The Notepad++ for Linux."
5
synaptic
"Quick, easy and effective installation tool."
5
gimp
"The epitome of image manipulation programs. Cleaner, faster (and freer) than Photoshop."
5
xscreensaver
"Xscreensaver is the way to go. Animations are awesome, and lots of easy configuration options. Some of the screensavers could, however, use a bit of graphical improvement."
4
xpdf
"Reads pdfs really well. Unfortunately, it suffers from outdated visuals and lack of shortcut support."
3
xsoldier
"A well-made arcade shooter. Speed and intensity makes this game quite enjoyable. However, it completely lacks sound, and the graphics are not excellent. More variation between levels would also make it more interesting. Nonetheless, if you're looking for a quick arcade game fix, it's worth playing."
4
armagetronad
"An incredibly fun arcade-style game. It runs quickly and smoothly."
5
thunderbird
"Excellent email client. Does what you want it to do."
5
gedit
"For plain text editing, gedit really can't be beat. Moving from Windows, it's the equivalent of the essential Notepad program."
5
xmille
"This is a classic card game that's hard not to like. As far as text games go, this is a brilliant adaption. The AI is also challenging; not too simple or impossible to defeat. If I need some stress-relief in the terminal, mille is where I'm going."
5
libreoffice-writer
"LibreOffice Writer does an excellent job at word processing. It has great compatability options, and is much cleaner than MS Word."
