pithos
"Sweet. Add ppa. sudo add-apt-repository ppa:kevin-mehall/pithos-daily, sudo apt-get update, sudo apt-get install pithos"
5
pdfmod
"Easy to use PDF editor. Limited options."
4
pdfshuffler
"Simple and effective. GScan2pdf has similar functionality and can also run my scanner."
4
audacious
"Lightning fast, stable, no nonsense music player. In regard to the review below, the picture in the software manager is what you get if you select View>Interface>Winamp Classic"
5
guayadeque
"Light and fast. Works well with large libraries. With smart play you only have to pick one song and guayadeque will automatically continue picking and playing similar songs from your library."
5
luckybackup
"More options than GRSYNC. Great."
5
opera
"Another good browser- I like it. The mandatory 10,000 word software license agreement I like less."
4
firefox
"Excellent. V4 has many of the advantages of Chromium and more websites are compatible. It is great to have choices."
5
ripperx
"Less intuitive than sound juicer or asunder. Could not immediately figure out how to encode as flac or ogg. WAV and MP3 were obvious. Gave up quickly."
3
asunder
"Uses Freedb.org - finds songs MusicBrainz does not include. Excellent on its own or complimentary to Sound Juicer. More options too."
5
picard
"No luck with this. Do much better with EasyTag and Ex Falso"
2
handbrake-gtk
"Allows me to protect my movies on the file server. It is amazing how far kids can slide on a wood floor standing on 2 DVDs after a running start."
5
unetbootin
"Just works"
5
sound-juicer
"Just works. Could use more options though. MusicBrainz does have some problems with recognition but this is not the apps fault."
4
f-spot
"Prefer gthumb. Photo organizers relying on databases have inherent problems."
2
exfalso
"Excellent, intuitive traditional manual tag editor"
5
easytag
"I am converting all my cds to flac and this is a great time saver. There is a short learning curve though. I recommend deselecting the option to automatically scan your entire music collection until you understand what is happening. Then scan individual album directories until you get the hang of it. If you are just editing one file Ex Falso may be simpler."
5
putty
"Fast, easy, just works"
5
pdfsam
"Interface takes getting used to but actually very powerful."
4
rhythmbox
"Solid, simple. Not as full featured as Banshee. Does not sync android devices."
4
banshee
"Has replaced Rhythmbox for me. V1.8 syncs my Android phone and Rhythmbox does not identify it. Option to write rating info to the MP3 tag which is nice if your database is lost."
5
sensors-applet
"Pretty good. Was a bit tricky to get up and running on my setup. Once configured it is the best linux temp/sensor monitor"
4
gnumeric
"Accurate and quick but I ran into serious problems printing spreadsheets"
3
lastfm
"Agree. Much better than using the add ons"
5
digikam
"OMG. I am a Gnome guy but this is awsome. Leaves the photos in your folders rather than a db file. Edits exif data including dates. Much more full featured than the Gnome alternatives. Installs a few KDE programs: Dolphin, Konqueror for unclear reasons though."
5
htmldoc
"Took 100 htm files and converted to 1 searcheable pdf with links in 5 seconds."
5
totem
"Trouble with some videos, trouble with some mkv, not much luck with it."
2
wesnoth-1.8
"OK graphics but lots of fun"
4
furiusisomount
"Works as advertised. Does mount the ubiquitous NRG images well."
5
audacity
"very powerful"
5
gprename
"Great. Quick and many options."
5
simple-scan
"Works great on my ScanSnap s1500 ADF scanner"
5
evolution-exchange
"Works but does not access exchange contacts for me"
4
picasa
"I prefer gThumb but it is flaky when it comes to photo import. Similar to with some advantages over F-Spot. None are perfect though and I wind up using all three for different capabilities."
4
dvdbackup
"My children have found they can slide a long way standing on 2 dvds. Backups are essential for me and dvdbackup works surprisingly well. Succeeds where Brasero fails and is much faster. Copies to a folder rather than an iso."
4
gnome-disk-utility
"Tremendously improved in 2.30.1 release"
5
gparted

5
gnome-commander
